This week I am sharing a couple of tear jerking videos that will make your day. The tip or principle that underscores these videos is from the book “The Go-Giver” written by Bob Burg and John D. Mann.

“The key to effective giving is to stay open to receiving”

The Go-Giver is a great read. It’s a short, inspiring story with a great message. The above quote is actually the 5th of 5 laws that lead to “stratospheric success.” The list of 5 is below.

The Law of Value: Your true worth is determined by how much more you give in value than you take in payment.
The Law of Compensation: Your income is determined by how many people you serve and how well you serve them.
The Law of Influence: Your influence is determined by how abundantly you place other people’s interests first.
The Law of Authenticity: The most valuable gift you have to offer is yourself.
The Law of Receptivity: The key to effective giving is to stay open to receiving.

Just this morning a former GW basketball teammate of mine sent me a video of a walk-on college football player being awarded a full scholarship. A walk-on is someone who is on the team but paying his own way. Receiving a full scholarship is about far more than just money. It’s a reward that touches every aspect of the athletes life. I know. I was one.

I received my full scholarship before school ever started my freshman year. A few days after graduating high school I took a train down to DC and spent the summer working out and playing summer league ball with the rest of my full scholarship teammates. I worked hard enough to convince our head coach that I was deserving of a full scholarship. It was just the two of us, sitting on the edge of the basketball support. There was no elaborate surprises or cheering teammates. But I can tell I was cheering inside!

Walk-ons do a lot of giving. They sacrifice their bodies during practice and spend much of the game cheering on their teammates. Those that stay positive and keep playing out a love for the game and their coaches and teammates are the ones that experience the blessings. They are the ones who stay receptive.

I recommend reading The Go-Giver giving serious consideration to the 5 laws of stratospheric success. And be sure to watch the videos below. They are simply awesome!
