Today’s Tip of the Week comes from college basketball player, Lauren Hill, who passed away this morning at the age of 19.
“I never give up.”
Even though cancer would eventually cause her body to quit, Lauren’s heart and mind never gave up the fight. Because of her courage, she became an inspiration, capturing the hearts of millions around the country. Her words remind me of those Jim Valvano uttered over twenty years ago.
“Don’t give. Don’t ever give up.”
Shortly after saying these words during his famous ESPY speech, Valvano died of cancer. Like Hill, he inspired millions, and continues to do so even today.
Hill and Valvano both knew death loomed. They were weak and in pain, yet they were the ones providing the encouragement and inspiration. Is it possible to do the same in our own lives? I think so. It may not have the same dramatic effect as staring down death, but every time we refuse to give up, we set an example. And as I’ve stated before, someone is always watching.
The Lord never gives up on us. His death and resurrection is proof of that. So my encouragement to you is, no matter what you are going through, don’t give up. Don’t ever give up.
