Saturday in Moscow, Idaho the 2-8 Troy Trojans will take on the 1-8 Idaho Vandals. It’s been a tough season for both football teams, but for the 19 seniors on the Idaho squad it’s been a tough four years. Their overall record the past four years is 5-40. That’s 5 wins and 40 losses.
The Vandals second year head coach, Paul Petrino, shared a great perspective today when I talked to him. He said he was confident the seniors, despite all the losses, learned to be “winners in life.”
Not all of those 19 seniors have been at Idaho four years. Some transferred in, but their star center Mike Marboe has started every game for the last four years. And he’s not just taking up space in the locker room. He has been on the Rimington Award Watch List for three years, signifying he’s one of the best centers in the country. He’s also already earned one degree and is working on a second. And he won an academic award geared towards encouraging entrepreneurship.
The losses may have piled up for Mike Marboe and his teammates but they have persevered, worked hard, and never gave up. Those traits are the hallmarks of a winner.
Want to be a winner in life? Get out there and play!
